Fantasy Contrarian: Be All Over Kelvin Benjamin
One of the hottest takes from this “fantasy preseason” is that you shouldn’t be excited about Kelvin Benjamin. Excuse me, what? I shouldn’t be excited about a big, fast, playmaking wide receiver returning to one of the best offenses in football? Not according to the “experts”.
Personally, I’m glad experts are telling people to stay away from Benjamin. That means I can draft him later and get more value. Want to give me free value? Sign me up. Let’s not overthink this folks: Kelvin Benjamin is a very talented wide receiver, the best receiver on the Panthers, the Panthers have a very good offense and a good quarterback in Cam Newton. What’s not to love? Will Benjamin break the receiving touchdown record in 2016? I’m not going to commit to that, but he doesn’t have to set records to be an awesome fantasy wide receiver. He just has to catch footballs and score touchdowns — two things he’s good at.
Look, Cam Newton turned Ted “I can’t catch to save my life” Ginn Jr. into a Pro Bowl caliber receiver in 2015. Go watch all the YouTube videos of Ginn dropping open passes and then you’ll realize just how good Kelvin Benjamin can be in this offense. The Panthers were the #1 offense in the NFL in 2015, Cam Newton was the MVP and Kelvin Benjamin is going to be he #1 receiving option this year. If that doesn’t sound like a match made in heaven to you, then I don’t think you understand fantasy football.
Go against the grain, let others pass on Benjamin while you wait to snap him up and then outscore every team that passed on him. Make sure to rub it in, too. That’s what fantasy football is about.
