    And the First Selection in this Year’s Draft is…

    jimmy-clausenThis is the quote every NFL prospect wants to hear. Ever since that tip toe catch in the corner of the end-zone. You know, the one just past the 3rd telephone pole, right past the car that was the supposed out of bounds.  But truth be told, there is only 1 that will hear that said every year.

    So then the next dream starts to come to mind, the one where you can be a first round prospect rather than a later round pick. Oh, and what about the one where you can bring home that big payday on draft day with a huge contract like a fantasy come true. Well, if you are Michael Crabtree, fantasy is reality when it comes to discussing your perceived fantasy value into contract negotiations or if your name is Eli Goldstein. So then you just keep downgrading your hopes to just getting drafted. But wait, you have to have the sick and tired of the media talking negative about me and saying mean things about me press conference. You have to reschedule your proday, once, maybe even twice. Changing everything you ever learned is always good for the NFL because you haven’t listened to everyone else before and became your own shining star, but now you listen to them and change who you to be accepted. And yet, year in and year out, NFL GMs, coaches, and scouts evaluate all prospects with an electron microscope trying to the find the DNA makeup of what they determine to be an NFL Player.

    Why do so many NFL Teams put so much pressure on themselves trying to force these prospects to perform immediately? Evaluate every NFL team. Analyze the team, the coaches, everything. There is no way any NFL Team can actually say they are 1 Top Prospect away from the SuperBowl. Maybe a team that went deep into the playoffs could make a case, but they won’t get a chance to draft until the end of the round. Championships are not won in the first round of the draft, with just 1 player. Many people fail to realize this is still a team sport. The team, multiple players playing together, wins Championships. The ability to evaluate the talent and look deeper into the draft will win championships. There are many draft picks throughout the history of the NFL never drafted in round 1.
